Capilano River RV Park

CAPILANO RV PARK

Capilano is a 208-site RV park with full amenities including outdoor Wifi for visitors & residents.

Problem:

The park’s outdoor wifi was considered adequate in the low season, for emails and page surfing, but strained at large bandwidth operation or media streaming.

The service was Free-for-all, and un-throttled, meaning that anyone can get on and use the system with allotments and therefore tie up whatever bandwidth available, which would take away from other users.

The system was set up with older equipment and limiting base station transmitters that bottle-necked the system, and not efficiently designed. As a result the system would often crash and have to restart. Many were frustrated with the network, especially during hi-season when the system had to deal with traffic of upwards of 800-devices.

Solution:

The new system installed is based on a Point-to-Multi-Point (P2MP) 60Ghz system capable of up to 2Gbps throughput, with updated omni & Uni directional access points to handle much more traffic & bandwidth.

In addition, the network was ’throttled’ for Free-access, limited to emails & simple browser access. New ‘Premium’ access passes were created through a ‘Guest portal’ page, allowing 15, 25, & 50Mbps plans for use daily, weekly or monthly.

Result:

The Park now has a hi-capacity system that can service all users with as much data as needed. Everyone can get onto the network for Free, quickly & easily.

The re-structuring of the access plans to a ‘Free-mium’ model ensures basic access for everyone, while charging premiums for higher-bandwidth plans.. all of which translates to a financial sustainability network, capable of paying for itself and even being a profitable venture within the Park.

Mosquito Creek Marina

MCM located at 415 ESPLANADE W. NORTH VANCOUVER BC, CANADA

The most central marina for boat moorage, travel lift, fuel dock, dry dock, marine maintenance, refit, and boat repair. Looking across the Port of Vancouver, just minutes from downtown Vancouver, formally known as Mosquito Creek Marina, ‘The Creek Marina and Boatyard’ not only provides top boatyard boat repair services and prime slip rentals, we build the marine industries finest boathouses and floating homes and have an ongoing list of marine suppliers all providing the highest quality of vessel service too.

-mor than 250 slips

-more than 150 floating home and boat sheds

Problem:

Marina’s old outdoor wifi installed around 4 years ago. the last team tried to install several powerful access points across the marina to provide full coverage of wifi.

The service was Free-for-all, and un-throttled, meaning that anyone can get on and use the system with allotments and therefore tie up whatever bandwidth available, which would take away from other users.

Regarding several interferences, the maximum speed for each user can’t exceed to around 1 Mbps in some locations.

The interferences include:

  • Radars: Fixed-location, on the land or at sea.
  • Existing Wifi Signals:
  • Tide-Related Water Levels affecting Frequency Distribution
  • Humidity
  • Frequency Behaviors
  • Obstacles : (floating homes, boatsheds)

Solution:

The new system installed is based on a Point-to-Multi-Point (P2MP) 60Ghz system capable of up to 2Gbps throughput, with updated directional access points to handle much more traffic & bandwidth.

We installed 6 of carrier-grade Aps and now all the marina covered by high-speed internet. Technically each user DL/UL speed can reach up to 800 Mbps.

Result:

The Marina now has a hi-capacity system that can service all users with as much data as needed.

Powerful current infrastructure designed to use as a value-added asset, for handling Marina’s IP cameras, Access control and much more… .

Peace Arch RV Park, Surrey BC

Problem:

Peace Arch RV Park is situated in Surrey BC near Whiterock and is a 270 unit site spread out over 27 acres, and home to over 400 residents, as though a small town, requiring hi-speed internet for those who work from home or simply need good connectivity for entertainment and family contact.

  • The park location was beyond DSL services to most of the park or cable internet due to its proximities away from major centres. Therefore it had a quite poor internet resource infrastructure within.
  • The adverse factors for wireless internet included many tall pines and of course stocked with 13’ tall RV trailers scattered fairly close together.
  • A standard point-to-multi-point wireless wifi distribution network was not up to the challenge of distributing wifi to the RVs made of metal & glass.
  • The residents were struggling along with 1Mbps wireless internet while trying to make use of a tenuous wireless backhaul with even more unlikely Point-to-multi-point connections with 8-year-old equipment, a poor network design and barely managed.

Solution:

  • Capitalizing on an old legacy of underground conduits, there was a basis for providing a wired underground backhaul backbone for the wireless design above ground.
  • CA designed an underground fibre-optic network to work along with key locations and conduits that would come up through the ground into 30 access point mast-poles.
  • The access points (APs) were leading-edge hi-capacity 5Ghz wifi Omni & directional antennas for hi-capacity 800Mbps+ per point. Along with the AP, solution is a series of 2.4Ghz APs providing long-distance reach and penetrating power to the RVs direct.
  • For those guests requiring extra signal boost, CA all provides hi-gain router/antenna signal booster equipment.
  • Along with the network architectural design, CA coordinated onsite deployment, mast foundation installation, fibre-optic running, converter boxes, power/switching, devices configuration, Plus an automated guest handling captive portal with service plan selection & built-in Paypal payment gateway.
  • Included in the service is a toll-free Helpdesk plus remote-in monitoring.

Result:

  • The park is now a state-of-the-art hybrid fibre/wireless installation in a community that prior to the installation was accessing approximately 2-3GB/month, now achieving over 4Terabytes/month.. a 5000% improvement in throughput.
  • The park is also a cash-flow positive financially sustainable network.
  • It’s vastly upgraded backhaul infrastructure ensures that it can even grow in throughput many times over since it’s fibre backbone is capable of 10Gbps, limited only by its incoming backhaul feed currently capped at less than 1-2Gbps due to the carrier limitations in providing added service to the current modems. This will improve in time and then optimize the further distribution of bandwidth to the residents via the fibre backbone and hi-capacity AP equipment.
